Formula Nippon Round 5
The fifth round of the Japanese championship Formula Nippon, scheduled to take place at Suzuka on 4 September, was cancelled due to the heavy rain and strong winds of typhoon No.12.
Being optimistic that the weather conditions would improve, the organisers postponed Saturday’s qualifying session to Sunday morning, so that qualifying and the race would take place on the same day. However, as there was no improvement with the weather, all sessions were cancelled.
It is only the second case of race cancellation since Round 7 of the Formula Nippon series in 1998.
Bridgestone senior technical advisor: Yasuo Teranishi
“It was the right decision to cancel the race, as safety is a priority. However, it was a shame for the spectators who came to the venue. Bridgestone look forward to a good race at the next round at Sportsland SUGO.”
