Third round of the CIK-FIA Karting World Championship (KF1)04/09/2011

Bridgestone kart tyres dominated the Genk circuit in dry and wet conditions
The third round of the 2011 CIK-FIA KF1 World Championship was held on 4 September at the beautiful Genk circuit in Belgium. Changing weather conditions were a showcase for both the Bridgestone slick and wet weather tyres and proved to be no match for Bridgestone’s competitor.
More than 6000 spectators witnessed exiting and close racing with three different winners who had one thing in common: Bridgestone brand kart racing tyres!
During untimed practice it was championship leader Nyck de Vries who topped the time sheets in most sessions. However during official qualifying his engine hit carburetor trouble, and without a single timed lap he had to start last on the grid. Pole position went to Flavio Camponeschi, who won race one in dominant style, whereas De Vries finished fourth thanks to a big crash in the last lap taking out five drivers. Race two saw exciting racing with many lead changes. Camponeschi lead most of the time, with Albon a close challenger. De Vries starting from fourth, dropped back at the start of the race but worked his way up to second in the final lap, right behind Camponeschi. However, maybe he got too close to Camponeschi  as the Italian spun off. The Stewards later decided that he was pushed off by De Vries and excluded the Dutchman from the results. De Vries lodged an appeal, hence the result is pending.
Qualifying for race three and four was business as usual. De Vries took pole just 0.06 seconds faster than the second fastest Albon. The later was the popular winner of race three leading from start to finish in great style. In race four De Vries showed everybody who was the fasted man in Genk. He drove his Zanardi – Parilla Bridgestone shod kart in dominant style to claim victory.
